A restaurant in Leicester has been shut down by local authorities after animal droppings and poor food hygiene practices were found during an inspection of the premises by local authorities.
The restaurant in question is Star Vashnu Dhaba, which is based in the Humberstone area of the region.
Food Preparation Surfaces Were Visibly Dirty
Mouse droppings were found in the area that the restaurant and takeaway used to prepare food during a routine inspection by local environmental health officers. One of the inspectors, Christopher Ashford, spoke about the findings at the restaurant, saying:
“I went into the kitchen and found mouse droppings behind and under the upright refrigerator, behind the chest refrigerator and behind and to the side of the cooking range. The standard of cleaning in the kitchen was generally satisfactory, however, there was food debris and grease behind the range, and the cleaning cloths all appeared to be dirty. There was anti-bacterial cleaning solution available at the business, but this was not in the kitchen at the time of my inspection. Some of the food preparation surfaces were visibly dirty.”
The restaurant was forced to shut down whilst it addressed its rodent problem and gave the premises a thorough clean. The restaurant owner was also ordered to pay a fine of £556.
The restaurant is now open again following a re-inspection, which was ordered by the prosecution to ensure that no food safety risks were being presented to the public by any bad food hygiene practices. On re-inspection, all risks to public health had been rectified.
